November

In November we celebrated Seth's 11th birthday.   The new Peanuts movie came out so we went as a family to see the movie (loved it!) and he had a Snoopy cake for his friend party.
The weather was unusually warm for mid-November. We took advantage of the 55 degree weather and played outside for most of the party!  It was so nice!

I hosted a Girl's Night Out at my house while my sister Debbie was in town.  We played Apples to Apples and ate treats.  It was great to spend time with the ladies in my family.

It was the day after Wendy's birthday so we had cake.  Jane helped her blow out the candle.

I hosted Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year.  We had my parents and Debbie and James. I wanted to have a small group to eat the meal with. It was nice to eat dinner family style instead of having to stand in line to load up the plate.  James had to leave Thanksgiving day to fly home, so we had dinner the night before. We had a great time together!

Seth got the drumstick!

We played a game called "Make a snowman" It was quite entertaining to watch our groups try to wrap the crepe paper around Mark and Seth.  Kind of creepy snowmen, but it was fun!

We did a few Thanksgiving themed Mad Lib stories and then we played some cup stacking games.

Jane loved playing with this turkey that gobbles when you push a button

All in all, it was a fantastic way to spend our Thanksgiving holiday!

October in Review

Daniel had been working crazy hours with work for the past 2 months. He needed a break from his 80-hour work weeks, so we had a family vacation in Moab.  My brother Dan and his 'special friend' Taylor love Moab and they were going to be down there for a friend's wedding the weekend we wanted to go, so we rented a house that fit all 8 of us and had a great time together.  The first day there we hiked to Delicate Arch.

Jane didn't want her picture taken (yet)

Ok, we can take her picture now!

Look closely- you'll see the family under the arch!

Daniel wore Jane's pink hat when she was tired of wearing it.  Cutest dad ever!

Jane and Taylor- I love watching these two beauties together!
The next day we went on a hike through Negro Bills Canyon.  It was a longer hike that we knew Jane couldn't manage, so she started the trail with us and about a mile or so in, I turned back with her and we went back to the house.  She wasn't happy about leaving the trail, and quite honestly, neither was I, because it was a beautiful trail.  I want to go back and do that hike.

It was great to get away as a family and explore new things.  I'm glad that we went.  I'm serious about returning for that hike.

The next week my brother Randy was going in for a surgery on his ankle to have it fused so we went on one last hike before he was down for 3 months.  We went on an easy hike to Blood Lake up Big Cottonwood Canyon near Gardsman Pass.

There was a rope swing and Dan HAD to try it out!

Jane and I went to Red Butte Garden with my friend Jenny Downs and her daughter and nephew.

The koi fish were HUGE and Jane loved watching them jump up to see if we had anything for them to eat.

Jane wants to be a 'haircutter' when she grows up so she opened up her shop so she can get some practice in.  She is one lucky girl to have big brothers who are willing to let her practice styling their hair!

She made a sign on the door to her beauty shop that says "open"
I was just itching to get up into the mountains one day.  I had to go.  There was a hike that was really close to the main road that I wanted to try out so I went by myself.  I had cell phone connection the entire time and the trail had a handful of people/groups using it so I felt safe.

I love these trees.  Quaking Aspen are beautiful.  I missed the leaves before they dropped, but I am determined to return here next summer to listen to the leaves blow in the breeze and again next fall to see this grove of trees while they are displaying their autumnal colors.  About a third of this hike is through this grove.

The last few years I have been terrible about carving pumpkins.  We have either not done them or carved them Halloween evening which was high stress for me.  I decided to host a pumpkin carving party with my family and then we could all get it done!
First we had a dinner of chili and rolls and then we carved the pumpkins!

Jane wanted to be a pirate for Halloween.  I thought that she'd want to be a girly pirate with a tutu skirt and the sort, but she wanted to be Captain Hook and wear the costume that we already had!  Phew!  My mom made this costume for my little brother Dan years ago.  All of my boys have taken turns being Captain Hook, so it is fun that she wore it, too!

I'm the room mom in Seth's class this year so I had a lot of fun putting together a party for the class.  The kids and their costumes were so fun!
