I don't know where this 'game' started, but I played it when I was younger and now my boys play it. You know the drill, right? The first person to see a Volkswagen Beetle car slugs the person next to them and yells out "Slug Bug!" My family has a rule that you don't hurt the person next to you, so you just tap them or lightly poke their arm. I have been playing the game with Paul and it has been a lot of fun!
On our drive to and from Tae Kwon Do, we will see on one or two (sometimes up to 4!) so we are always on the lookout for the little cars. Paul has the advantage of looking through the parking lots while I have to keep my eyes on the road.
A few weeks ago we both noticed a Slug Bug pull in to the parking lot right after we pulled into our parking space. We both ran around to the back of the van to call out our win, not knowing that the other had seen the car. Paul ducked to miss my poke and I poked him on the face! It was a tie, but since I hurt him, I gave the point to him!
Earlier this week we were driving to the store together and we both thought that we saw a Slug Bug. I jumped early and slugged Paul right as I realized that it wasn't a Volkswagen Beetle! Paul was relieved that he hadn't called it. We had to decide what the rule was for an errant call- and punching the other person wasn't an option. We decided that the person who calls out when there isn't a Slug Bug has to do something nice for the person he/she slugged and then they can't call the next Slug Bug that day even if they see it first.
I bought some Nutella for Paul as my peace offering. Later that day I asked Paul to tell Daniel why I bought him the Nutella and he answered, "Because Mom hit me!" There is an answer that needs a bit more explanation!
Thursday night I was 4-0 against Paul! Slug Bug!
